About My Clients
In my work with clients from varying cultural backgrounds, my therapeutic approach is holistic and incorporates various factors that impact an individual's sense of self. As an Asian psychologist, I have an interest in working with Asian American clients and other minority groups struggling with acculturation and cultural stress. Similarly, in my couples work, I specialize in working with partners in interethnic/interracial and relationships as well as mixed neurotype couples.
My Background and Approach
I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology at Georgetown University and my master's degree and doctorate at Fordham University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine / Elmhurst Hospital and my post-doctoral fellowship at Pace University's College Counseling Center. I have been practicing for over 18 years and have extensive experience working in college counseling, school, outpatient, day treatment, inpatient, and forensic settings in the NYC area and collaborating with culturally diverse children, adolescents, adults, families, and parents. As a former Program Director at Montefiore Medical Center, I have special expertise working with children and families in a school-based setting and have worked closely with schools to facilitate workshops to students, teachers, and parents. I have also provided individual and group supervision to trainees and am an adjunct faculty member at the Graduate School of Education at Fordham University.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My approach is integrative and collaborative and involves a deep exploration of your past, including family dynamics, attachment patterns, socio-cultural factors, and big and small traumas. My belief is that we all unintentionally get "bruises and wounds" during our life, and therapy is a process in which we can begin to clean out and heal those wounds carefully together, with the goal being to understand their impact on your current functioning and to create a different relationship with your emotions so that you can mindfully and intentionally move forward in your life. Each client's session is unique and looks different and based on what you need at this time in your life. Therefore, we continue to evaluate your goals and progress regularly, and I pay particular attention to our relationship and the therapeutic alliance, as I believe it is the most important ingredient in therapy.
