For the last 10 years, I have specialized in working with youth and adolescents. Adolescence is a time of various changes and pivotal decisions as teenagers seek to explore aspects of their identity, their growing independence, and to discover their place in the world. place in the world.

Anxiety is often the catalyst of avoidance, unrealized dreams and low mood due to excessive worry. Anxiety can affect people in different ways but the root cause of all worry are anxious thoughts. These negative thoughts are so powerful, they typically cause overthinking, stress, guilt, shame, tense physical reactions and feeling uneasy. You will learn about the types of cognitive distortions, practice identifying them, challenging them and reframe negative thinking.

There are many reasons someone may be feeling depressed. Sometimes guilt may creep in and cause you to feel bad for having feelings. Over time, you may have started to blame yourself or tell yourself that you are stuck. Regardless of what happened or who caused it, life must proceed. Together we can find hope and learn new ways to improve mood and change your quality of life. We will identify causes of your depression, process it’s impact, and discover new ways to think, feel and to be.

Thoughts, feelings and behaviors are the keys to understanding self. We must constantly evaluate ourselves to ensure we are aligned in those three aspects. Our thoughts are so powerful, they control the way we view ourselves and how we interact with the world around us. Sometimes our thoughts may conflict with how we want to feel and things we wish to do. When this disconnect happens, stress occurs as it creates internal discord and chaos.

As a trauma focused- cognitive behavioral therapist, it is my goal to provide a warm and safe environment where healing is invited to take place. I’m order to understand where we are going, we must understand who we are and what experiences have left emotional baggage. Some of the baggage has existed so long it may feel as if it is apart of you. However, after understanding the role trauma has in your life, that baggage becomes lighter over time. Trauma no longer has to weigh you down.
