About My Clients
I believe in empowering my clients, and I believe very firmly that you have strengths. Oftentimes our work together will involve identifying, examining, and leveraging those strengths to help you feel better. Heroes learn about their unique qualities and talents. Let's find out more about yours so that you can become your own hero. Empowering oneself can take effort; sometimes it is difficult to lean into your own strengths when you are used to telling yourself negative things about you.
My Background and Approach
I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have spent 17+ years conducting therapy in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio. I have worked with adults in community--serving agencies, in college mental health counseling, and in the Veterans Health Administration. In therapy, you and I will work one-on-one. This requires privacy, confidentiality, and trust so that you feel comfortable enough to fully disclose your past experiences and innermost emotions. In our early meetings, I will ask you questions about yourself so that you can start to organize and make meaning of your thoughts, emotions, and experience. At other times, I can remain quietly present while you take some room to explore and to feel. In counseling, we migh spend time together in your head, examining habits of mind that are excessively negative, stress-inducing, or contradictory. Lastly, we might look at your coping skills and then I will coach you to improve those skills.
