About My Clients
Do any of these comments sound familiar? “You’re too emotional.” “You’re so dramatic.” “Why can’t you just let it go?” “You’re so sensitive!” Do you struggle to cope without going to extremes? Too many people haven’t been taught how to cope with the struggles of life in healthy, effective ways and instead find any possible way to feel better, as quickly as possible. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in particular can help you learn these vital skills to begin building the life you choose.
My Background and Approach
Therapy isn’t fun; it’s productive and relieving, but not fun. Therapy takes hard work and courage; it can be difficult, uncomfortable and is often a painful process. In DBT, our view is not that the therapist is “more than” or “better than” the client; therapy is a partnership. In our work together, I support clients who are stuck in suffering and emotional pain and struggling to cope in daily life to learn lifelong skills and behaviors to more effectively manage and resolve their concerns in healthy, effective ways. I am honored to travel alongside clients in their journey to healing and wholeness. Whether you struggle with Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, disordered eating/eating disorders, co-occurring substance use, depressive or anxiety disorders, we will address the behaviors that interfere with you living the life you want to have.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a native Oregonian and grew up in a very rural area in the northeast part of the state. I attended college first at Oregon State University (go Beavs!) before moving to Georgia where I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and attended graduate school to receive my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I lived in Las Vegas for a few years working with adolescents in a substance use treatment program before moving back to rural Northeast Oregon to raise my son. Following his graduation from high school, I accepted a therapist position with a community mental health program which resulted in a move to the western side of the state. I am now exclusively in private practice serving adults across all of Oregon via teletherapy. And I am happy to once again be within a short drive to the Oregon coast!
