In my own therapy process, I have come to face and process the relentless stream of losses I experienced from the beginning. Dealing with the loss of my adoptive mother was what introduced me to the field of counseling and the grieving process has remained a central focus of my continuing education and personal experience.

Almost every client I have ever worked with has experienced some level of trauma in their lifetime. The universality of this phenomenon has forced me to develop an attunement to the issue. As a professor of human development, I have explored much research on the impact of trauma on development at every stage of life and in each domain: emotional, cognitive, physical and social. I have also pursued education particularly in the areas of somatic and relational approaches to trauma recovery.

My research and expertise in human development and multicultural competency (both courses I teach), as well as my own experience as a woman gives me an affinity for the unique concerns women face. I am well aware of the societal pressures, cultural dynamics and aggressions which contribute to difficulties with self worth, identity and relationships. I truly enjoy facilitating the process of navigating these factors to live into the awesome woman each one is created to be!

I have worked from this orientation for the past four years. I have completed extensive research (including preparing to teach Counseling Theories in a grad program) and have received supervision from an experienced expert in this approach.

I have extensive training in several art mediums from high school and college. During my masters in counseling program, I focused on the use of the arts in counseling. Since beginning my career in counseling, I have incorporated this experience and research into my work with clients and have pursued additional training to hone my integration skill.
