About My Clients
Managing relationships, family, health, work or school, and the day-to-day stresses of life can be a struggle. Maybe you had some bad experiences in the past or as a child that are impacting you now. Maybe you need some help figuring out what you want. Maybe you overthink, can't sleep, or worry too much. The good news is that therapy can help you learn to cope more effectively, and think and feel differently - new pathways can be made in the brain at any age, so there is hope for everyone.
My Background and Approach
Therapy is tailored to you and your needs, and may include psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, and somatic techniques. For example, if you're an overthinker, you may benefit from getting more in touch with your body and out of your head. If you struggle with people pleasing, we can practice behavioral experiments for setting boundaries and increasing your confidence. I also specialize in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), a short-term, evidence-based treatment for insomnia. Many clients see improvements in their sleep within a few weeks. Changing how you sleep can help clear the way for tackling other issues in therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I grew up and completed most of my education and training in New York City, where I interacted with the breadth of humanity on a daily basis. I've always had an affinity for underdogs or those who feel like misfits or like they don't belong. My upbringing led me to a lifetime of empathy and understanding of the diversity and complexity of human experience. Homophobia, immigration issues, economic issues, generational trauma, violence and disaster survivors - the world can be a tough place. Through it all, the capacity humans have for resilience and growth continues to inspire me, especially in my nearly 20 years of working with Veterans. My mission is to help you find your strengths, and help you move through whatever you're going through.
