Accepting Clients

My name is Anayiah Howard (Ah-nay-yah) and I am currently an intern therapist at Iridescent counseling. Accepting teens, adults and children

About My Clients

As an intern, I plan to work with the child/adolescent population, and utilize a variety of therapeutic methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, play therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and many others. Under supervision, I plan to learn more about play therapy and trauma informed care! I have a strong passion for working with children as they need advocates to help them meet their personal goals in a safe therapeutic setting.

My Background and Approach

I have a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in Childhood Development and Psychology. I am currently finishing my master’s in clinical mental health counseling with an emphasis in childhood/adolescent disorders. In regards to occupation, I work as a Licensed Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapist (RBT) with Advanced Autism Services. I have been an RBT for 5 years, working with autistic children of all backgrounds of culture, race, and gender; helping them become independent learners. As a seasoned RBT, I have worked with autistic children of all backgrounds, culture and race. I plan to continue this work with my mental health clients by providing them with tools for their healing journey.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe counseling to be a collaborative experience between counselor and client. I believe in emphasizing a space that allows clients to be themselves while simultaneously guiding them towards setting realistic goals, meeting objectives, increasing their personal awareness and helping them realize their strengths/limitations to reach self acceptance. During their journey, clients deserve to be met at their current capacity which includes measuring their current values, goals and maintaining flexibility over time for growth during the therapeutic process. It is important for clients to remember that I am merely a holistic tool, not a teacher who just provides answers to their presenting issues. I challenge my clients to discover their own solutions and develop skills through ethical resources I provide for them in sessions. The ultimate goal is to guide them in successfully resolving their own conflicts, challenging irrational thoughts, and discovering their motivation for change.
