About My Clients
I seek young children [birth -8 years] and their families to provide education and support in nurturing a healthy & dynamic family system. Parenting, I believe, is the TOUGHEST job out there, and I commend you for reaching out for guidance. I believe a combination of a safe & healthy environment paired with an empathetic and responsive caregiver(s) is the core of bringing up healthy children. I am a believer in boundaries, emotion regulation and allowing your humanity. I also serve adults.
My Background and Approach
Since 2012, I have primarily served children [prenatal-5] and their families in the context of home and school in the areas of child behavior, developmental disabilities and early childhood trauma. I have experience working with first-time parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, teen parents, and foster & adoptive families. I can offer guidance and advocacy in navigating the world of Special Education services to families. Sessions with me often look like creating art, constructing worlds in the sandbox [SandTray therapy] taking walks or playing games outside, role playing with puppets, reprocessing former trauma [EMDR], and integrating compassion and mindfulness to accept all parts of yourself [through the use of Internal Family Systems and Acceptance & Commitment therapy] I beleive in learning and integrarating relevant skills and practices to better your day to day WHILE ALSO healing the inner wounds and reasons for why you are showing up the way you are [IFS & EMDR work]
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe if each of us 'loved ourselves fully' -- our world would be saved. Ultimately, you will get out of our time together, what effort and truth you put into your practice. I am here as your guide, ally, advocate and support and I come with compassion and accountability. I have 'walked my talk' this past decade volunteering my time and energy into my community: For over 7 years, I volunteered for a Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy center educating youth in a prevention program. At present, I educate youth in sexual health through the Learning Council. I have volunteered as a National Forest Winter & Summer ranger as well as in Search & Rescue and at present am taking a break from logging volunteer hours, but still am active on my skis, bike and feet. Since 2017, I have been active educating myself and others in racial justice and I am committed to further developing my own internal-racial bias understanding and advocacy work. I am currently on the DC Cares Leadership team.
