About My Clients

My ideal client is motivated to want to learn and grow. You and your partner/spouse are trapped in a cycle of negative interactions without resolution. You feel insecure in your relationships, but you don't know why. Trust in yourself or others is a challenge. As an adult child of an alcoholic/addict you were the adult as a child. Childhood insecurities sabotage your relationships and other areas of your life. As a young adult trying to launch, you feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed

My Background and Approach

When we live our lives unconsciously, we repeat self-defeating behaviors that may have helped us survive in circumstances over which we had no control. Maybe you grew up in a family where feelings were not expressed or tolerated. This frequently leads to anxiety and depression. We don't understand the underlying issues behind the choices we make that cause difficulties with family, marriage/relationships and work. Without insight into ourselves we are unable to effect real change. I am a warm, caring therapist and I provide a supportive, safe and non-judgmental to explore issues that are challenging you right now. My approach is eclectic with an emphasis on CBT, Psychodynamic, DBT and Inner Child art-dialogue work. For the past 14 years I have helped couples with marital issues, including infidelity. I am trained in John Gottman Level 3. Do you find yourself arguing over the same issues without resolution? I am trained to teach you to identify triggers and communicate effectively.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that if you are motivated, you can learn and grow. I believe many of the mental health issues people experience often times stem our family-of-origin. After all, that is the first experience we have of the world and people! Your mom is the first relationship with a woman; your dad is the first relationship with a man. It's not about blaming your parents - most do the very best they can. It's about understanding where our issues originate; we develop ways of coping and protecting ourselves in physically and emotionally unsafe circumstances. I grew up with an alcoholic mother and when I left home at 19, it was with a whole lot of depression, anxiety and inability to trust myself or others. It affected many areas of my life. I did not start my therapy-recovery work until my early 30s. I had a wonderful therapist who helped me heal through her love, compassion and commitment to me. That is what I strive to provide the people I work with I truly believe it is never too late!
