About My Clients
Adults come to me for help with emotional overwhelm. They are often in strained and stressed relationships with loved ones. They might be experiencing relentless grief well over a year, or even years, since the loss of their loved one. Sometimes there is a traumatic experience that they just can't get over. My clients appreciate our structured sessions that offer time for talking and expression, and also time to learn and practice new knowledge
My Background and Approach
My certifications, licensure and training culminate into therapy sessions that are structured, meaningful and individualized. As a person-centered psychotherapist, I will listen with curiosity, respect, and a desire to understand you. Hopefully you will feel my acceptance and respect for you, and the environment in which you live, however you show up in therapy. As a clinical social worker (LCSW), I take a person-in-environment perspective- so I am always considering you in the context of your family, work, and other relationships. I use my drug and alcohol certification (CAADC) and training to help make sense of the chaos that ensues in families when there is problematic substance use. I use my certification in Acceptance and Integration Training (AAIT) in sessions to provide you with guided techniques to decrease and release from stuck inner states like anger, fear, worry, shame and experience a calm, clarity and self-acceptance.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe it takes courage to begin a dedicated healing process. We need to give ourselves time and space and make it a priority for real change to happen. Therapy is where this happens. I, myself, engage in on-going therapy to not only maintain a state of balance, but to help me through specific situations that cause me distress. I am just like you in this way. My own experience with therapy is why I have a deep respect for the therapeutic relationship. I value your time, too- it is important to me that you feel that therapy is worth your investment of time and money, so sessions will be structured and meaningful. Like any skill or talent, we get better at what we practice. I love helping clients discover those skills, and to figure out how to practice and incorporate them in a realistic way so that they have transformative effects on their lives.
