Trauma takes a physical and psychological toll. I have successfully worked with adults and children affected by complex trauma. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) which is an evidence-based model for processing childhood trauma. Cognitive Behavior Therapy works well with adults suffering from PTSD to reduce flashbacks, rumination, anxiety and depression associated with past trauma.
I immigrated to the United States from India 28 years ago. It was rough in the beginning. Learning a new lifestyle, a new culture on top of the isolation from family was overwhelming. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment, which focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion management and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT has proven successful with clients experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and eating disorders. DBT brings change by radical acceptance. DBT provides concrete skills that can be used daily to make positive changes.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced based treatment to treat depression, anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It works successfully for children and adults. This treatment model is generally short-termed and focused on problem-solving in the present. CBT aims to identify harmful, unhelpful thoughts or beliefs and check it against reality. Replacing unhelpful thoughts or ideas with positive, practical thoughts leads to positive action.
I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT which works amazingly well with children suffering from complex trauma. I have successfully used TFCBT with children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. Trauma presentation in adults looks a bit different. It becomes that unseen chain that binds you to your past and renders you struggling in the present. I provide a safe and confidential place for adults and children to process trauma and give tools to move forward in life.
