when a trauma happens it triggers your survival brain. the experiences of the trauma don’t fully get processed leading to nightmares, seemingly unexplainable stomach sinking feelings, and more. EMDR allows for healing of the mental injury by revisiting tolerably distressing aspects of the event to support the nervous system in learning that the danger is over. this is done by the use of eye movements or tapping so that when these memories are revisited you can heal.
