About My Clients
Do you feel defensive, anxious, or find that you people-please when workplace or romantic relationships get tough? Behaviors and patterns from our childhoods or past relationships follow us into our daily lives. We wonder why we find ourselves in toxic workplace environments or why we’re attracted to the same type of partner. I love working with clients who are ready to look back at the past to make sense of the present. I am experienced with complex trauma and enjoy working with CPTSD.
My Background and Approach
My passion is working with clients who experienced trauma and dysfunction growing up and helping them work to understand themselves, their personal and family histories, and the world around them. We often find that exploring our histories helps reduce and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, improves relationships, draws stronger boundaries, and changes behavioral patterns such as procrastination or perfectionism. We also often discover it isn't that there is something wrong with us - that its not us that is broken but the environment we were in.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
All political, cultural, and religious viewpoints are welcome and embraced in my office. Therapy should be a place to discuss pain and heal from life, without judgement, fear, or stigma and with the knowledge that as your counselor, I accept you as you are. My first career was in speech and debate. I competed in high school and coached as an adult. I really enjoy working with fellow teachers and understand the unique emotional identity that comes with being an educator. The pressures on educators have never been as intense as they are today. I also tend to look at things with a 'debate lens', defining the problem, evaluating the terms, and understanding there is truth in all sides of an issue. I am an 'animal person', and share my office and my practice with Zen, a therapy cat. He is available to meet with clients upon request. (@zenthetherapycat.com on FB/insta)
