About My Clients
I work with individuals who are struggling with feeling disconnected from themselves, their feelings, and other people. Are you struggling with depression? Finding it difficult to find motivation and passion in your life? Is your ADHD keeping you from completing important tasks because you can't stay focused? Do you ever wonder why things seem so much easier for others? CBT, mindfulness and art therapy can greatly improve all these struggles. Let's work together to get you where you want to be!
My Background and Approach
I am a graduate of Wayne State University where I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy. I received my bachelors degree in Psychology from Oakland University and my associates in Mental Health/Social Work from OCC. I have experience working with youth in the juvenile justice system and foster care, adults with substance abuse, traumatic brain injuries and housing insecurity. I completed my internship in private practice seeing individuals of all ages and struggling with many issues such as ADHD, ASD, depression, anxiety, life changes and chronic health conditions among others. My approach to conducting therapy is to tailor the sessions to you, because you are the expert on you! We will collaborate on the best approach to help you reach your goals. I utilize an integration of art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone knows on some level what is best for them and that therapy aids us in uncovering that knowledge. This knowledge is built upon by learning and refining skills, then learning to trust ourselves and using this confidence to move through our world in a more efficient way. I went through many years of my life with untreated depression and undiagnosed ADHD and I coped using art. Art was how I felt safest to communicate to others how I was feeling and my innermost world. I believe art can tell us so much about who we are, how we are feeling, thinking and reacting to the world. Art is a powerful way to promote healing and understanding. I also discovered that the way I talked about myself, my life and others was damaging in many ways. Once I understood the impact these statements had on how I felt and behaved, I began to change them to more efficient and positive statements. This is when I saw real change. I am passionate about sharing all I've learned!
