About My Clients
I work with adult clients who find themselves feeling overwhelmed or stuck in unhealthy patterns and wanting to better understand themselves and build healthier relationships. I focus on exploring emotions, resolving issues from the past, and increasing self-awareness. I provide evidenced-based, multiculturally competent and identity-affirming counseling services. Many of my clients identify as cyclebreakers who are looking to create healthier patterns without sufficient family/social support.
My Background and Approach
I am a doctoral-level Licensed Psychologist in the state of North Carolina (#4831). I hold certifications as a Health Service Provider Psychologist (HSP-P) and I have obtained an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) from the PSYPACT Commission (APIT # 13904). I practice from a lens that integrates psychodynamic, emotion-focused, and feminist therapies. I pull heavily from attachment theories and interpersonal neurobiology with regards to conceptualization of human development and trauma. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all approaches to therapy and work to see the bigger picture surrounding your problems. Given my highly individualized approach and attention to the therapeutic relationship, I tend to connect well with clients who have had a negative therapy experience in the past or who are seeking therapy for the first time.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am an intersectional feminist with a passion for social justice and human rights. I have many years volunteering in the field of intimate partner violence. I am committed to life-long learning and enjoy my connections with other professionals in the field. I hold memberships in the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, the North Carolina Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association (APA) and several of the APA divisions including Division 17: Society of Counseling Psychology, Division 35: Society for the Psychology of Women, and Division 56: Trauma Psychology. Locally, I am a member of the Mecklenburg Psychological Association (MPA). I am an animal lover and fur-mom to three cats and two dogs. I am a proud mother to neurodivergent children, including a child with PDA, an atypical profile of Autism. I am an active member of the Charlotte Autism Consortium and recently contributed a chapter on PDA to a book about ableism.
