About My Clients
I have worked with clients of all ages. I have extensive training in trauma-focused treatments. I also have expertise working with a variety of difficulties, such as difficulty controlling emotion and attention, anger, anxiety, depression, mood swings, nightmares, panic attacks, serious mental illness, sleep problems, stress management, substance use, and relationship difficulties. There are many different approaches to therapy; I focus on individually creating the best treatment for each client
My Background and Approach
I received my masters and doctoral degrees from Northern Illinois University. I specialize in evidence-based practices which uses gold standard treatments to teach clients helpful skills in a timely manner, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have completed several trainings in trauma-focused therapy and have completed several rotations in trauma and PTSD clinics. I have also completed training in the assessment and treatment of mood difficulties, substance use, and sleep disorders. My goal is to have the client become their own therapist. I use the approach of providing a warm and supportive environment, collaboratively identifying treatment goals with the client, and continually checking in with the client throughout treatment to make sure progress is being made.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I create a warm and supportive environment and always meet the client with where they are at in the moment. There is bravery to showing up to a single therapy session. I emphasize that while I have the expertise to implement the treatment, the client is the expert on their lives. The client creates their treatment goals and selects the treatment path that is the best fit for them. I heavily rely on the relationship between the client and myself to increase the client’s confidence and practice of skills learned in therapy.
