Alyson Lischer LMFT, CEDS-S

Alyson is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist-supervisor. She has been working in the eating disorder field for over 15 years and has experience working at higher levels of care as well as outpatient therapy. Alyson takes a compassionate approach to treating eating disorders which integrates client-centered therapy and evidence based practices.

Alyson is an eating disorder specialist and understands the complexity of the relationship with one's body image. There are so many factors that impact our relationship with our body from diet culture to weight bias and racism. In therapy, Alyson believes it is crucial to explore the underlying causes of body image concerns and develop a more weight neutral stance to identity.

Alyson integrates a feministic perspective into her work and believes it is important to explore stressors that pertain particularly to female identifying clients and identify social structures that impact mental health. Alyson has a special passion for working with clients around fertility, pregnancy loss and motherhood.

As a marriage and family therapy, Alyson believes that healing is a relational process. The therapeutic relationship is crucial in supporting the process of change. In therapy, Alyson strives to create a safe that clients can show up fully as themselves and explore the areas of their life that they are struggling. The therapeutic relationship is a genuine relationship that provides for opportunities to work through the tensions and discomforts that come up in other relationships.

Alyson has taken courses in Dialectical Behaviors Therapy (DBT) and integrates DBT skills in therapy to help support clients contain behaviors and manage distressing emotions. DBT offers a variety of skills to help with emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness skills which can provide concrete skills clients can utilize when they are struggling.
