Anxiety can be a helpful messenger, teaching us about what we need to change or what doesn’t feel good in our lives. But, if it gets too big, anxiety can also take over, creating unnecessary stress and causing chaos in our minds and our lives. I will help you and your teen understand when anxiety is sharing helpful messages and when it is simply creating chaos. With this knowledge, your teen will learn new skills to feel calm and let their anxiety know when it can take a break!
Often, the voice that is most critical of our choices, actions, and experiences is our own. Many of us can extend kindness and grace to others, but struggle to extend the same to ourselves - instead using harsh and cruel language to narrate our inner life. I partner with clients to identify the origins of this "inner critic" and the contributions that it makes, as we build skills that foster self-compassion, internal self-harmony, and contentedness.
A focus of my work is supporting gender and/or sexually diverse individuals across the lifespan. Everyone's journey of discovery is unique, and it is my privilege to partner with children, adolescents, and adults in living a more fully authentic life and overcoming obstacles that interfere with their ability to access joy, peace, and fulfillment.
Adolescence is a time of becoming, working to understand ones' self, and leaning more fully into an authentic lived experience. This transition period can be one of anxious excitement or stressful angst, but often it is a mix of the two. In my work with adolescents and their families, I value creating space for all experiences, supporting each member in gaining skills to grow through this metamorphosis, and helping adolescents discover and establish their values for a life worth living.
