About My Clients
My clients are often caring, driven people who feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, OCD, or self-doubt. They struggle with constant “what if” thoughts, intrusive worries, or performance pressure that makes daily life harder than it should be. Some find themselves replaying conversations, overanalyzing choices, or feeling trapped in mental loops. Deep down, they want peace of mind, confidence, and freedom to live fully without fear taking over.
My Background and Approach
I’m Allyson Patterson, M.Ed., LPC Associate, supervised by Ken Van Swearingen, LPC-S. My background includes personal and professional experience with OCD and anxiety, which fuels my passion for helping others feel less alone in their struggles. I specialize in Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT), a powerful approach for OCD that helps clients step out of the “what if” stories the mind creates, as well as EMDR for trauma and distressing memories. I also integrate sports psychology strategies to support athletes in overcoming performance anxiety and building mental resilience. My approach is structured yet compassionate, blending evidence-based tools with genuine connection. I believe therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and focused on giving you skills that last beyond the session. Along with individual counseling, I lead virtual support groups for adults and teens with OCD and anxiety, offering both community and practical strategies for change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every person has the capacity for growth, resilience, and change, even when anxiety, OCD, or self-doubt feels overwhelming. Thoughts and worries do not define who you are—they are experiences you can learn to observe, challenge, and respond to differently. Therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique story. I believe in providing a safe space where clients can explore difficult emotions, confront fears, and practice new ways of thinking without judgment. I value evidence-based approaches, including I-CBT, EMDR, and sports psychology techniques, but also believe that genuine human connection and understanding are central to healing. I am committed to empowering clients to build confidence, regain control, and create a life guided by their values rather than their fears.
