Making the transition into motherhood can be difficult. In addition to the all the physical changes one must endure, there are often changes in one's mood and thinking. We're often told that pregnancy and early motherhood are supposed to be "magical" times, but for many, those times are anything but magical. Even though it might not feel like it, I assure you those feelings are common and you're not a bad mother for experiencing them. Those feelings can become persistent and overwhelming, though, and it would be beneficial to talk to someone.

After experiencing a traumatic event, PTSD often develops when one doesn't have a space to speak safely about the trauma or a support network to reach out to. I can provide you with a place to talk about what you've experienced without judgement. We can work on developing coping skills that will help you feel safe in the world again.

Addiction can be a symptom of something larger going on. It is often the primary coping skill people use to numb untreated mental illness and/or unresolved trauma. In order to address this, I utilize a harm-reduction and person-centered approach. This means that you get to define what recovery means to you. For many recovery will require sobriety for the rest of their lives. For others recovery involves learning how to use a substance in a healthy and safe way. Regardless of what you want recovery to look like, we will look at the bigger picture of your addiction. We will explore why you use substances, what they add to you life and what they take away. Loving someone with an addiction also comes with its own stress. If you love someone who uses substances in an unhealthy way, I can also provide you with support. We can explore ways you can take care of yourself as you also support your loved one.
