I'm passionate about helping people who have experienced chronic trauma retake their life and gain a sense of safety and control.

Trauma memories are stored in our minds differently than normal memories. This difference makes them emotionally intense, intrusive, and distressing. EMDR helps us better access and transform these memories to be less intense, fuzzier, and less upsetting. EMDR can also make it easier and less upsetting to get in touch with those memories in treatment. The goal is to help it be just like any other bad memory you may have, but no longer be the 'technicolor surround-sound' experience it is now.
Typically, the last thing people want to do when they have trauma memories is deal with them. But unfortunately, we know that the only way to truly "get over" these memories is to work with them. Together we will work to make this process feel safe and manageable as possible, and do it at a pace that you are comfortable with. While it may not be super fun, it is effective, and worth the effort.
I practice IFS and Ego State Therapy, both systems that address the parts or facets of the personality that interact to shape our behavior. In these treatments, you get to better know and understand these parts of the self, and how and why they exist to protect you. You'll work to get all of you "on the same team" which can greatly reduce the conflict and distress you experience, particularly if you dissociate a great deal.
Mental health and medical practitioners are typically taught little about dissociation, with the effect of making it challenging, and at times, invalidating to seek support for an issue few truly understand. I'm passionate about helping people who dissociate and want you to know that I know without a doubt that DID and other dissociative issues are real. Your experience will be honored and respected, and I have the knowledge and training to help you feel whole. You, and your parts, are welcome
I have extensive experience working with individuals with PTSD, with trauma-related issues being my primary focus for more than ten years. I'm trained in a number of evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Written Exposure Therapy, all shown to be highly effective in dealing with traumatic memories. I'm also familiar with issues frequently seen in people with PTSD, including chronic health concerns, migraines, seizures, and traumatic brain injury.
In the last two years, I worked exclusively with Veterans in a PTSD and Military Sexual Trauma-focused clinic. Prior to that, I spent two years working in British Columbia, Canada with Canadian Forces veterans, current military members, and first responders (RCMP, police, fire, rescue divers, 911 operators, etc.). Those who have served to protect others have too often been exposed to distressing life events, and deserve the support to work through these experiences.
