About My Clients
Are there obstacles hindering your growth and development? Do relationships feel stagnate or unfulfilling? Are you finding meaning and purpose in your life? Are you grounded in your identity? Are you engaged in creativity? At times, these central challenges to existence require special focus, intent and guidance. I am committed to helping you transcend obstacles to obtain a path towards growth, meaning and fulfillment.
My Background and Approach
I have a BS in Psych from JMU, an MA in Counseling from Marymount and hold professional licensures in VA and OR. Past experiences include teaching Gender Equity and Group in the GMU master's program, Creator of a camp for gifted girls, Director of a homeless shelter, and embedded as a Military & Family Life Counselor overseas with the Marines, Air Force, Army and Navy. I have completed my first year of Vision Quest at Hayulima in Ecuador. I have extensive experience treating anxiety, depression, marital conflict, OCD, anger issues, grief and loss, ADHD, spectrum disorders and trauma. I worked solely with gifted and neurodivergent individuals for 10 years in family, individual and group settings. Being a musician, I have special interest in helping artists and musicians grow through daily practice. I believe the challenges that occur on a path to pursuing creative expression parallel personal life challenges. Gaining insight into these connections creates enormous potential for growth.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have passion for working within a framework that honors the full spectrum of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with race and gender including under represented groups such as veterans, single parents, people with disabilities, formerly incarcerated individuals and those from low income backgrounds. We have learned that familial generational patterns become woven into the fabric of our DNA. Gaining insight into the dynamics of our relationships frees us from replaying destructive patterns and enables us to embrace those that are conducive to our growth. On some personal notes, I authored the world's first book(scratch & sniff) written to be read to dogs. I am a performing artist playing harmonica, piano, bass and whistling. I have special interest in exploring creative growth potential with the people I work with. I'm glad to answer any question and hope to hear from you!
