About My Clients
I see clients from ages 12 and above, but I specialize in geriatric counseling. The elderly often face unique challenges that complicate more common concerns such as depression or anxiety. These issues include isolation, grief, role reversal with their adult children, dementia, and so much more. However, my clients also include the family members are that are affected by aging parents and grandparents.
My Background and Approach
I am licensed in both Mississippi and Louisiana. I am currently applying for licensure in Tennessee as well and at this time I see all of my clients virtually. I use an eclectic approach that includes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, somatic psychotherapy, and more. While these terms may sound unfamiliar or even intimidating, I take a client-centered approach. This means you set the goals for your therapy as well as the pace. Meanwhile I provide education, guidance, and the the skills necessary for you to reach your goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy should be an enjoyable experience. Clients should look forward to their appointments. As a therapist, this means it is my job to be welcoming and ensure my clients are comfortable. I use a mix of approaches to achieve this including light-hearted humor, metaphors, and education. I check with the client to ensure understanding, and I work at their pace. This doesn't mean we ignore new challenges. Personal growth, after all, comes from challenging ourselves, but these challenges should be confronted with security, guidance, and confidence.
