Experiences of trauma can be recent, past, historical/generational, or related to systemic oppression. Symptoms of trauma can affect us daily and may or may not meet full criteria for PTSD. I have been working with adults healing from trauma in both inpatient and outpatient setting since 2015. I work with people to support insight into how trauma affects daily life experiences and relationships. I am trained in both EMDR and PE.

Substance use is often a coping mechanism that eventually hurts more than helps. We'll work together to explore your relationship with substances and work towards a better understanding of how to best care for you. I work from a harm reduction lens and believe that MAT (Medicated Assisted Treatment, ex: Suboxone, Methadone, Vivitrol) is an important part of recovery for many people.

In therapy, we'll talk about the effects of trauma on your brain and body, and practice skills to turn down your fight or flight response so that you can process what has happened to you and move towards changing how it’s affecting you today. We’ll aim to sort out which patterns are still helping you, and which you’d like to change.

I am an EMDR trained therapist. If there are parts of your memories that feel “stuck,” we can talk about if EMDR might be helpful for you. EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and uses tapping or eye movements to help you fully process past experiences.

Grief and Loss may be connected to the death of a person or animal, the loss of a relationship, or the realization that an experience in the past or present was not what was expected or needed. Together we'll explore how grief is affecting you, make space to process emotions, and get curious about different ways to cope.

Trauma isn’t defined by the details of the experience itself, but by how our ability to cope has been changed because of what has happened to us. This can look like higher anxiety or depression, fighting with or feeling disconnected from other people, or using substances in a way that’s hurting more than helping. Symptoms of trauma do not have to meet criteria for PTSD to be acknowledged and treated.
