Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in New York, NY
Supervised by Meredith Shirey, LMFT
As a couple and family therapist intern, I approach relationships systemically, incorporating family-of-origin history, relational dynamics, and environmental/contextual factors into treatment.
I approach anxiety with compassion, acceptance, and biologically rooted attachment framework. Together, we will investigate the causes of your distress and create practical plans for developing a calm, easeful state of mind.
I specialize in working with teens and adolescents, using empathy, compassion, and acceptance as the basis for change.
I use a combination of empirically-validated models and collaborative approaches to address the issues and areas for change in each couple. I consider the couple - not each member of the couple - as my client, and work to direct the relationship towards a unique position of health, which looks and feels different for every couple.
EFT focuses on the power of emotional experiences in relationships and how they relate to the patterns and cycles of systemic interaction. A main focus of EFT is to use emotional experiences between people in therapy to reconstruct their intimate bonds. The aim of therapy is to increase the accessibility and responsiveness which constitute the strength of such bond, by integrating new aspects of self into the relationship and rendering relationship positions more flexible and adaptive.
I have deeply explore the intersections of social identities, the experiences of oppression which are faced by many diverse families and communities, and concepts of culture, privilege, and power. I bring these values and learnings to my clinical work with empathy, validation, and acceptance.
