About My Clients
It takes courage to ask for help. Traumatic experiences, systems of oppression, unsupportive or toxic relationships, and feeling misunderstood rewire the brain to protect us against perceived threats. This often leaves us feeling overwhelmed, emotionally isolated, and out of control; acting in ways that misrepresent who we are and repeat patterns that don't serve us. Together we will partner to heal your protective responses and rediscover your life purpose and sense of self.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is focused on person-centered and trauma-informed care. I place an emphasis on identifying your unique cultural, historical, relational, societal, and gender-related issues, to highlight your uniqueness and help us partner in repairing the beliefs that no longer serve you. I have received advanced trauma training and have worked with survivors recovering from a variety of single event or complex trauma backgrounds including intimate partner violence and sexual abuse. I often gravitate towards using music and expressive arts modalities to support your healing process as I believe this encourages creativity and a sense of connection, which are essential to recovery. Other approaches I use include DBT, CBT, and parts work. Interventions will often highlight the the mind-body connection, attachment, and mindfulness. You will receive techniques and psycho-education meant to empower you to continue this work outside of appointments.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe true healing occurs when someone is accepted for all that they are. I believe that when therapy offers a sense of safety, empowerment, collaboration, trust, and choice, true and long lasting healing can occur. I believe everyone inherently knows what it is they need to heal. However, life's struggles, constant comparison, and the harmful messages we internalize along the way often cloud this wisdom. Without an unbiased perspective, it can be challenging to see the way forward. I am committed to examining and breaking down my own biases, privilege, and advocating for marginalized groups. Any technique or approach I ask of you, I have engaged in myself, and believe to be powerful tools for healing.
