Play is the language of children and how the explore and learn about their world. Children do not process their emotions and experiences through talking, like adults do. Rather, they "play it out" in a variety of ways. Using play as an intervention also keeps children engaged and interested in therapy.
I adapt a variety of CBT techniques to be developmentally appropriate for children and teenagers. This model incorporates well with play therapy techniques and allows for a lot of creative interventions.
I have training in DBT and use this model adapted for children and teenagers. DBT is a helpful modality to help kids learn effective ways to regulate their emotions.
I work with children and their parents/caregivers on a variety of issues, such as (but not limited to) childhood anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. I also help with ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, adjustment disorders, and early intervention services.
I am a nationally certified provider of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is an evidence based model for treating PTSD in children aged 8-18. I am trauma informed in my work and have experience working with survivors of physical, sexual, verbal abuse and neglect. I also work with children who are experiencing traumatic grief and other traumatic incidents or losses.
