About My Clients
I use a culturally affirming and intersectional lens to understand your whole personhood. I work with adult clients experiencing anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, life transitions, depression, grief, insomnia, and trauma. One of my specialties is working with individuals adjusting to recent cognitive changes (e.g., COVID brain fog, mild cognitive impairment) and family caregivers of loved ones with a progressive neurological disorder (e.g., dementia).
My Background and Approach
It's important to me that you feel like we're on the same page. My goal is to bridge your expertise on yourself with my knowledge in helpful therapy approaches. Whatever we do in therapy is tailored to you and what matters most to you. We will work collaboratively to help you feel grounded. My hope is to help you live more intentionally, with authenticity and clarity. I primarily draw techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to enhance my work. I earned my PhD in clinical psychology from UC Berkeley, and I completed my predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF. As a researcher, I developed expertise in how the brain supports emotion and empathy, and how the emotional lives of family caregivers relate to their well-being.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a 1.5 generation Chinese American woman, I have particular insight into the experiences of immigrants and the kinds of expectations that are common for many in the Asian American diaspora. I have applied this insight in my work as a therapist, working with individuals as they build upon inner strengths and efforts to heal. I integrate a culturally responsive approach to find balance between your inner self and addressing the impacts of oppressive systems.
