About My Clients
Are you struggling with a recent diagnosis of a neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or PPA? Are you concerned about aging issues or caring for a loved one? This can be an overwhelming journey, but you don't have to walk it alone. As a therapist, I can help you navigate the challenges and provide emotional support. With no small decisions to make along the way, it is important to have someone to turn to. Let me help you through this difficult time.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is rooted in emotional support, care coordination, cognitive rehabilitation, and daily problem-solving. I take a holistic approach that recognizes the full range of your situation, rather than solely relying on traditional psychotherapy techniques. Together, we will acknowledge the many facets of this next stage in life, including both the illness and the wellness, grief and hope, devastation and resilience, and the present and future. As a caregiver, we can work together to navigate relationship changes, develop communication strategies, and address caregiver burnout. For those with a diagnosis, I use a mix of therapeutic approaches tailored to your disease's stage, drawing on existential and humanistic therapies in the earlier stages and focusing on validation and somatic therapies in later stages that prioritize emotional connection and wellbeing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My overall approach comes from a person-centered model where I recognize you as the expert on your own journey. I welcome conversation (verbal and non-verbal) that is grounded in collaboration, mutual learning and healing and acknowledge the impact that systemic, cultural and social expectations have on our daily existence. I continuously strive to combat the stigma that shrouds a diagnosis of cognitive decline and I look forward to walking this path with you.
