About My Clients
Have you ever felt panic or fear and did not understand where it came from? Suddenly felt like you were back in a disturbing situation from your past? Felt the crushing weight of imposter syndrome as your internal monologue works to bring you down? I am passionate about helping people heal from the trauma that has lead to these reactions- becaues it does not have to be this way. Additionally, I love to work with people as they navigate through infertility, pregnancy and postpartum concerns.
My Background and Approach
Sometimes stress gets to the point where it just feels toxic. We question everything, especially when the hurts from our past feel like they're a heavy shroud over our happiness and what we hope to accomplish. I firmly believe that it doesn't have to be this way. I work from the perspective of 'what has happened to lead to this problem, and how can we work through it together?' My primary treatment modality is EMDR, a therapy which helps heal the parts of your brain that have been injured by toxic stress. I have completed additional consultation and training in advanced EMDR techniques to achieve the status of certified EMDR therapist through the EMDR International Association. I am also certified in perinatal mental health. I love to serve clients seeking care from the family planning stage through the post-partum period. Sometimes this includes the deep pain associated with infertility, pregnancy loss or other complications. You are not alone. It is OK to accept help.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that you are the best expert on yourself, and my role is to meet you where you are- not where I think that you should be. Your experience is the experience that matters, and I want anyone who comes to see me to feel safe to be their most authentic self. I try to create that safety by taking a trauma-informed approach ("What happened to lead to this?" and never "What is wrong with you?") Establishing safety also includes doing my own work to explore and understand how meet the safety needs different of populations as well as being aware of and working through any implicit biases that may come into play. I endorse the statement, "I support counseling unconditionally for clients seeking counseling in Tennessee" as stated by the Tennessee Equality project.
