About My Clients
Making the decsion to work with a therapist is the first step towards healing, and I am honored to be a part of that process for several people. I work well particularly well with men and women in their 30s-50s, but have an extensive history working with children as young as five and seniors in their 90s. I feel this robust experience has given me opportunities to learn about the human experience and I look forward to using that knowledge to help my clients.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in several fields including families with children in hospice care as well as people living with HIV and AIDS. My style tends to be more laid back. I want you to feel comfortable when meeting with me after I've earned your trust and respect. I will often use humor in treatment (when appropriate, of course) and feel very strongly about meeting the client where they are at. We are a team and I will walk with you through your journey, celebrating the victories and supporting you through the challenges. As far as modalities used, I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Theory, as well as Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT). I have recently been trained in Accelrated Resolution Therapy (ART) and find it to be a facinating combining of the left and right sides of the brain, working together to get results for the client fast and efficiently.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I feel very strongly about people recognizing and living a life based on values that are important to them. I strive to do the same. I believe in kindness, compassion, empathy, and equality. As a member of the LGBT community, I work to life marginalized populations of all kinds and provide them with whatever support they say they need. I have experienced trauma as a child and worked through it using a therapist of my own, so I know what it's like to be on the other side of the office. As far as interests go, I am someone who enjoys running (well, walking with purpose) in RunDisney events, playing video games and screaming on the occasional roller coaster or thrill ride
