About My Clients
I specialize in working with people who feel that their sexual behavior is out-of-control or compulsive. I also enjoy working with folx around a variety of other sexuality- and relationship-focused issues, including communication styles/skills, anger management, infidelity, and identity development (sexual orientation/gender). Finally, I have extensive experience working with folx who are facing challenges associated with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and life transitions.
My Background and Approach
In addition to my clinical license, I hold a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality Studies. Pursuing this course of study has influenced my practice in many ways; but, I think the most significant is how it helped me develop a passion for talking to people about their relationships. I believe there's a lot we can learn from examining how we interact with others. More practically, my approach to therapy is informed by psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral theories. This means that I'll work with you to help you develop 1) an awareness of your current thought processes, and 2) an understanding of how your life experiences have influenced the way you think. In addition, I'll offer you concrete tools to help you modify ways of coping that no longer serve you. My goal is to empower you to make the meaningful, positive changes you're seeking. Regardless of what brings you to therapy, I believe very strongly that all human beings are resilient, capable, and deserving of care and compassion.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I firmly support the Black Lives Matter and Abolish ICE movements. I also volunteer to organize a monthly discussion group in my local queer community.
