Communication is so significant in relationships, yet is one of the things that seems to be so absent for so many. I work to teach couples to communication on both the content level as well as the process level of communication. Successful communication helps significantly to increase relationship satisfaction. Parenting, Intimacy, Finances, all problematic areas of relationships are helped with effective communication at the core.

I have worked extensively with survivors of abuse, domestic violence, rape, and other forms of trauma. I have received training in Trauma Informed Care, Gestalt therapy, and EMDR. I have worked for years with a local nonprofit organization that specialized in working with victims of abuse and violence, and have worked for 30 years with individuals who have been victims of trauma. Various therapies are helpful with different individuals and I work to find the best approach for each client.

Anxiety is an increasing problem in our society and I am seeing it evidenced in younger and younger populations. I have worked with anxiety throughout my career, and continue to work to help individuals find tools to use to manage their symptoms. I use cognitive behavior treatment approach to work to identify distorted beliefs and help resolve the feelings that result from them. I work with children and teens, where I see anxiety increasingly prevalent, as well as adults.

I have extensive training in treating trauma and abuse that continue to cause you and others harm. EMDR has been found to be a significantly positive technique in treating trauma and PTSD. By reprocessing our harmful neural networks we can process old pains and emotions and find resolution, growth, and healing.

When we address our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, we begin to change the way we see ourselves and the world around us. We interpret incoming stimuli in a different way and are able to respond differently. I have training in CBT to help clients address and re-train patterns of thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve them.

I have experience in working with couple of all types of relationships. Common to all relationships is the need to feel safe, understood, valued, and heard. Communication is a significant issue in relationships and I help couples learn to communicate better, to hear each other, to listen to understand and not to debate, and to find connection through this process. Most other issues in relationships, such as money, parenting, and intimacy, are better served when couples can truly communicate.
