About My Clients
In my practice, I have worked with people who have a broad range of struggles ranging from dissatisfaction with life and identity exploration to people who have suffered severe traumas or who have a history of hospitalization. I specialize in working with patients who are skeptical of therapy, are concerned their beliefs or experience may be stigmatized, have stalled in skill-based therapy, who have been traumatized by the mental health system or have been made to feel difficult or resistant.
My Background and Approach
I began my mental health career in residential therapeutic communities, giving me a unique perspective on working with those suffering acutely; in these environments, it was more possible to be human with one another than is often the case for people requiring a higher level of care. It became my conviction that all people deserve an experience of therapy which protects their dignity. I collaborate with patients to try and render their own minds more legible to them which facilitates personal growth and change. With insight, troubling experiences can be diminished – not just managed. My work is guided by theories from psychoanalysis and phenomenology, but therapy shouldn’t be a purely intellectual endeavor. What is important about these frameworks is that they allow our work to play out with creativity in the context of a developing, authentic relationship and organic conversation. In other words, my approach is tailored to each patient and I do not adhere to a single method.
