About My Clients
Dr. Little's clients find themselves struggling with sadness, stress, low motivation, and anxiety that prevent them from creating the life they deserve. Stigma might have kept them from seeking care. The history of slavery, systemic racism, and oppression can cause intergenerational trauma. And people who identify as both black and part of other marginalized groups (e.g., LGBTQ+) can face unique challenges. Dr. Little helps black folks uncover their inherent strengths and resilience.
My Background and Approach
Dr. Little has been a therapist since 2005 and has a doctorate in clinical psychology as well as extensive training on diversity issues. She has done several research projects and lectures on LGBTQ+ issues, microaggressions, and mental health in the black community. She focuses on brief therapy, addressing specific issues and achieving goals within a relatively short period of time, often in just a few sessions. The focus on achievable goals and solutions can enhance your motivation and engagement in the therapeutic process. Once you see concrete, observable growth, together you can talk about graduation or maintenance.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Dr. Little's commitment to eliminating mental health stigma in the Black community is unwavering. She partners with local organizations to provide free events to discuss mental health and expose her community to needed resources. And she knows enough to bring BBQ and potato salad to draw the people. She believes that everyone can benefit from working with a therapist at least once in their lifetime. She believes that every therapist should have their own therapist. Her experience as a queer, black woman from a religiously conservative family helps inform her practice and her level of empathy. She believes that people can spot BS a mile away and true warmth and positive regard is essential to a healthy therapeutic relationship. However, her best experiences in therapy as both a client and practitioner have not mimicked friendships, but strong working alliances based on trust and mutual respect.
