About My Clients
I work primarily with people in their 20s through 50s who struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, and relationship problems. Many of my patients work in technology or finance. I also work with therapists from cognitive disciplines who want to get deeper into emotional work.
My Background and Approach
When people first come to see me, they have things they need to say and no one they can say them to. I'm a careful, non-judgmental listener, and I'm very good at facilitating these difficult conversations. This process of opening up and safely saying what couldn't be said brings immediate relief. After two months of weekly sessions, my patients usually report feeling much better -- less pressured, less angry, less depressed -- and better able to control their feelings around others. Patients who stay with me longer have the opportunity to take ownership of the parts of themselves that have long felt unruly, forbidden, or strange. This is meaningful and empowering work, and it takes time and commitment. After a year, my patients find themselves able to look back and see that they've grown in ways that they didn't think possible. Slow change is lasting change, and this is for keeps.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the redemptive value of love and work, that doing what feels meaningful to you and spending time with people who matter to you. I also believe in the value of play: physical exercise, games, lovemaking, creating and experiencing art. I believe that these are human universals. How you instantiate them -- what you do, who you love, how you play, whether you like to make music or go out dancing or play the market or stay home and paint -- is up to you. I believe that my role is to help you surmount the obstacles that stand between you and your own fulfillment.
