Accepting Clients

Hi, Abby here! I'm an international/transracial adoptee who personally knows the struggle to find a therapist who feels like the right fit.

Licensed Professional Counselor in Portland, OR

About My Clients

I work with fellow international and transracial adoptees who struggle with the narrative of being “enough” in spaces. My work with adoptees understands adoption as trauma that ultimately impacts the ways we can feel connected to community, and creates complexity around understanding identity and belonging. I find that approaches used with this population can often translate well when working with immigrants, children of immigrants, and folxs experiencing cultural dislocation.

My Background and Approach

At the center of our work is authentic relationships - between us, with others, and within yourself. We'll laugh, cry, curse, and breathe together to get through the painful parts and return a sense of belonging into your skin. I believe in witnessing the experiences that have gotten you this far, making room for the chaos, and leading with curiosity as we explore your identity in all its complexity. Space with clients is led relationship-first, which creates a strong connection and foundation where healing follows. I'm relational in nature, and recognize that therapy needs to be adaptable to each client, not the other way around. I often use strengths-based approaches, attachment theory, Liberation Psychology, and Interpersonal Neurobiology as the foundation to my work, and look to elements of DBT and Mindfulness-Based CBT for skill development. Focus areas also include working with chronic/complex trauma, identity development, neurodivergence, high achievers, & helpers/healers.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I became a therapist because I saw a lack of adoptee representation and support in the field, and too many therapy relationships that felt misaligned or performative. I wanted to create space for authentic presence in the therapy room - where it's okay for therapists to have personality, show real reactions, and build connection through genuine relationship, not clinical distance. Finding the right fit may be time consuming, but shouldn’t be draining. Consults are a brief window into what the therapeutic relationship will look like - like a vibe-check. And if the vibes are right, the hard stuff will come naturally and not feel forced. This is why I offer 25-min consults. Reach out for a consult and let’s take it from there!
