Anxiety was the very first treatment issue that I addressed with a client in therapy when I began practicing. I have such an empathy for individuals who have difficulty with these disorders. As a musician, and otherwise, I suffered for many years with terrible anxiety and have great empathy for those who do. Mindfulness and MBCT has proven to be of great help for me and for those that I have worked with as well as CBT.

Relational difficulties permeate our culture and throughout t course of my practice this has been my experience as well. Very often an individual comes to therapy for one reason but another comes to light and inevitably, that reason is discord in their interpersonal relationships. My goal is to look at the relationship, how they serve they client and how my client functions positively or negatively themselves. What issues, past and present or at play and what boundaries may be needed.

My experience with sexual abuse began, unfortunately during my years counseling in the church and has followed me since. I Have done substantial training in the area of recognizing and providing therapy for the sexual abuse and assault for both women and men, and have addressed these issues in both individual and group therapy settings.

I have worked extensively with clients utilizing Mindfulness based therapy specifically when they are drawn to past events or to harmful, hurtful, or distracting moments that move them away from the work of therapy. We can use Mindfulness to stay in the present: body scan, awareness walks, etc. When one is drawn to the here an now, it is much easier to find empowerment.

I love Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. So many of us have our thoughts fused or "jumbled" in a way that makes it really difficult for us to move forward. With ACT, we can work on defusing those and accepting what we should, letting go of what, we should, and finally making a commitment to work with what is left. It is a really wonderful scenario which includes many other components and mindfulness as well. I have seen this therapy be so successful in practice.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is what I started with and how I learned as a therapist. CBT focuses on identifying incorrect thoughts and reframing them through a series of exercises. With the commitment of the client, it is highly effective. I have used this therapy successfully for many years in individual and group therapy.
