About My Clients
While working with clients I treat them like a collaborative partner, whether it be a family or individuals. My clients are the experts in their own lives and I'm the professional with the tools to hand them. In session we will use your values, mindset and frame of reference to address your treatment goals. I want my clients to feel supported, like they are making progress and accepted while challenging to reach their own standards once defined together. Otherwise I'm not doing my job properly!
My Background and Approach
I graduated with my MA in Clinical Mental health from Sam Houston State University in 2023. I am an LPC Associate under the supervision of Dr. Candice Ashely PhD, LPC-S NCC . Before I was a counselor I was a theatre teacher so don't be surprised if we get creative in session. I approach therapy from a mix of theories, utilizing narrative, creative expression, somatic and IFS parts work. But I am also well versed in trauma informed CBT and DBT and even work with family systems therapy that is emotion and attachment based. I like to think of therapeutic approaches as a tool belt and like to add to it frequently. I rely on you to help me figure out what works best for your goals and with what approach you feel like you are making the most progress with. I am values driven and will help keep you aligned with what you value most and will challenge you to grow in the direction you decide you want to grow.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My Granddad would always say "If you can help someone then help em". While its a bit folksy it is how I have grown to be in my career and personal life. Everyone needs a hand now and then and I like being the person there to give it. In my career, I make sure that my clients have affordable access to care with a clinician who practices cultural humility and tries to learn from my clients as much as they learn from me. I believe in using my privilege to uplift those who are a part of marginalized groups different from me and adding my voice and experiences to battling oppression in the LGBT community that I call family. Professionally and personally I am a strong advocate for social justice and equitable treatment of all peoples. It is my duty as a mental health clinician to understand and advocate against oppressive symptoms that perpetuate generational trauma.
