DBT Skills Group

Open for Enrollment
Our DBT Skills group therapy is based on the four core principles, Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Each of these principles receives a dedicated course of group therapy to help you learn what to do when your emotions become overwhelming. Instead of trying to eliminate your emotions, we work on understanding them, regulating them, tolerating difficult moments, and responding in ways that are more consistent with the life and relationships you want.

The four major DBT skill areas are:

  1. Mindfulness – learning to stay present rather than getting swept up in thoughts and emotions.
  2. Distress tolerance – getting through intense situations without making things worse.
  3. Emotion regulation – understanding and managing strong emotions.
  4. Interpersonal effectiveness – communicating needs, setting boundaries, and maintaining relationships.

Clients are taught specific tools for:

  • Managing overwhelming emotions
  • Tolerating distress
  • Reducing impulsive reactions
  • Improving communication
  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • Staying present and mindful
Clients realize they're not alone

Hearing other people describe similar struggles can reduce shame, isolation, and the feeling that “something is wrong with me.”
