About My Clients
My clients are often struggling with challenging relationships. They have loved ones who fail to support them and who invalidate their feelings and perceptions of reality. Often their loved ones have addictions, are emotionally immature, or have mental health issues. Navigating these relationships, while remaining true to ourselves, is not easy and often results is stress and unhealthy coping mechanisms. I also find it rewarding to accompany clients through grief.
My Background and Approach
I began my career in a jail mental health unit and since then, I've provided therapy to individuals on an air force base and most recently, a substance/mental health rehab program for the Veteran's Administration. I also volunteer with survivors of gun violence who are grieving and/or coping with trauma. I understand the person within the context of their environment and endeavor to address wellness in a holistic way. I view myself as a guide who journeys alongside my client and empowers them with new skills taught As a client, you will leave sessions with a new framework for understanding your challenges, including context provided by psychoeducation. You will also gain an appreciation for your natural abilities and personality traits that are unique to you. You will learn new interpersonal/communication skills, organizational and decision making skills and coping skills as well as learn to challenge negative self talk and assumptions and create a comprehensive plan for self care.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strongly believe that every person has inherent value and deserves dignity and respect. I strive to be an ally to marginalized and at risk groups and I believe in activism towards social justice. I volunteer with Moms Demand Action to prevent gun violence, through policy change, education, and community engagement, as well as support to survivors of gun violence. My beliefs are based in my faith that God loves all of his people, intentionally made us diverse, and wishes us to love and know each other. My personal faith in God fuels my work. While I strive to be God’s instrument of healing, I do not discuss faith with clients unless they specifically request this. Oftentimes a person’s faith can be a valuable source of their own healing and I am happy to support them in this when applicable.
