About My Clients

Do you keep getting an uneasy feeling that you can't put words to? Do you struggle to be yourself? Do you need to be constantly doing something? Do you overthink what you will say, did say, or want to say? You are not alone. During therapy I strive to provide a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel safe to be who they are and talk without judgment. I will get a better understanding of who you are and where you'd like to be.

My Background and Approach

I use a variety of approaches that all focus on looking at the individual as a whole, rather than a list of symptoms or a diagnosis. I primarily use ACT, existential therapy, and DBT techniques. ACT uses metaphors and analogies to help express those feelings that are hard to put words to. I also encourage clients to get creative with expressing themselves. Existential therapy allows us to look at how our humanness impacts our mental health, things that we all experience but tend to not talk about. DBT has a lot of great techniques that help to raise awareness and promote mindfulness so that there can be space to look at those bigger, scarier things. I have specialized training in virtual play therapy with children and adolescents and working through grief with children. I also specialize in identity formation, so developing who you are (whether you just did or you're thinking about coming out or you're trying to find who you are as an emerging adult or you just started a new job).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Before we're even born, society is instilling rules in us. As we grow older, we internalize these rules from society, from our family, from movies, from our teachers, and so on. We must have our hair like this. We must dress like that. We must get this grade and do this activity. We must be productive. We all have these rules and as we move down the line there are separate rules for different groups. Women should be like this. Men should be like that. Then there are even more rules for race, and sexuality, and gender identity, and age, etc. By the end of it, we're living by a code that we didn't even participate in making. What if we threw out that rulebook and made our own? What would yours look like? Maybe you want to be kind, maybe you want to make a difference, maybe you want to be successful. What would life be like if you got to decide? If this sounds like something you want think more about, feel free to shoot me a message and we can see if we're a good match for your journey.
