About My Clients
The story of you is unique. My practice is based on the belief that our lives are a mosaic — where we tell the stories of ourselves through our experiences, our memories, our minds, and our bodies. I have a unique skill set and perspective that enables and empowers growth in my clients. I specialize in helping individuals live more intentional and fulfilling lives through evidence-based therapy and a collaborative approach to both mental health and nutrition counseling.
My Background and Approach
Using evidence-based therapy and a collaborative approach, we'll explore the different aspects of your life and develop powerful tools to help you overcome obstacles. I have experience working with a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, life transitions, divorce, relationship issues, grief, self-esteem, confidence, motivation, depression, and food and body issues. My counseling approach is centered around your personal goals and values. By examining your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, we'll work together to create a roadmap for success. I utilize several different counseling modalities, including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), somatic therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques. I also approach therapy from a holistic perspective. My background in nutrition, yoga, mindfulness, and mental health gives me a broad perspective that allows me to help my clients achieve lasting change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have struggled with depression, disordered eating, low self-esteem, suicide attempts, divorce, chronic illness, and grief over the course of my lifetime. Mental health counselors were a lifeline and allowed me to view my circumstances from a different perspective. They helped me grow and overcome so much. They helped me see how all of these things helped me become who I am today. I became a counselor to offer hope and empower growth in others. I received a degree in nutrition and dietetics 30 years ago. While doing nutritional counseling I realized that understanding more about healthy eating wasn't helping people. They had deeper wounds. I felt unequipped to help them! So, after raising my children, I had the opportunity to go back to school to get a master's degree in mental health counseling in order to deal with the deeper issues plaguing my clients and meet them where they are. I believe we all deserve to feel peace and contentment.
