About My Clients
Do you keep getting hurt in relationships? Do you spiral into feelings of anxiety, depression, rage, self-criticism? Feel detached, like an observer of your own life? Relationship trauma changes you. If you've been hurt, you may push people away, give too much, ignore red flags, or feel confused about what love really is. You may feel broken or damaged, but you’re not. You’re injured. And your injuries are treatable with the right therapy. Healthy relationships and boundaries are possible.
My Background and Approach
Clients come to me looking for someone who gets complex trauma and family dysfunction on a deeper level, because therapy should be a place where you feel safe and validated. In sessions we’ll explore how trauma impacts you now, making connections between past and present to create lasting changes. We’ll understand and manage your body’s response to trauma, gain emotion regulation skills, and build your self-esteem. We'll move at your pace, examining the past but not reliving it. My specialties are healing from relational and complex trauma (C-PTSD), dissociative disorders, and therapy for therapists. I practice relational psychotherapy, which explores how past experiences shape us and our patterns of relating to others. I also use interpersonal neurobiology and attachment neuroscience to help trauma survivors stop reliving the past and finally heal.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We're ultimately who we are because of our relationships. The most intimate ones, with primary caregivers or romantic partners, literally shape your brain. We used to think early experiences defined us but now we know our brain is constantly being reshaped by new relationships. That’s why feeling safe and connected is the most important aspect of any therapeutic relationship. Early experiences of relational trauma (including chronic invalidation, neglect, and abuse) shape the brain and all neural systems defensively, to anticipate similar experiences. Therapy can change your brain's response to fear and threat, offering hope and healing to relational and complex trauma (C-PTSD) survivors. Reparative relationships have the power to heal relational trauma. Diverse populations are always welcome in my practice, including all cultures, sexual orientations, genders & relationship structures. I offer telehealth to California residents.
