My Background and Approach
I've worked in community mental health care for a little over 5 years. I come from a background of social justice and racial equity, trauma-informed practice, and I have the following approaches: Gestalt (helps people increase awareness/clarity), Motivational Interviewing (helps people make decisions and get 'unstuck'), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, helps people resolve trauma, negative thoughts, flashbacks, avoidance), and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT, helps people involved in the criminal justice system). I also incorporate elements of Somatic therapies (helps people find safety in the body), and Neurocounseling (helps people see the link between body and mind).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a firm believer that finding safety can lead to healing. I prefer to see clients from a holistic point of view, and walk beside them to help them find their own answers, using myself as a sounding board. I am compassionate, but my main concern is holding clients accountable to their goals, so they can live the lives they want. I believe in racial equity, social justice, mindfulness and meditation, and structure.
