About My Clients

Folks often seek me out for help with anxiety, ADHD, self-harm, academic concerns, relational distress, depression, and grief. As a former teacher, I understand how young people move through transitional times of life - in and out of middle, high school, and college, for example. Parents certainly also benefit from support through these events. Working with artists is a passion for me as well; I love the creative brain and see the arts as a valid professional path as well as a healing tool.

My Background and Approach

I see clients individually and/or in family sessions, and I facilitate groups for teens. Many clients choose to start with a Meet & Greet, which is a free consultation. I like to make sure I am a good fit for you and to ensure that I can both meet you where you are at now and help you toward your goals. I prioritize an honest, collaborative relationship with clients, and a good fit is key to that. My clients often set goals around self-esteem, executive functioning (time and task management, organization, emotional regulation, etc.), relationship dynamics, personal identity development, adjustments, and communication skills. I can be as directive as you wish, but the client is in the driver's seat. I've been told my style is organized, laidback, and accepting. In addition to traditional talk therapy, some of my clients like experiential therapy - music, taking walks - as well as using somatic tools, mindfulness, and humor. Therapy can be fun as well as meaningful and transformative.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Therapy can be a tool for social change and racial justice. Mental health professionals have a duty to recognize generational and personal trauma in order to "do no harm." I believe wellness occurs in community with others as well as within the individual. My practice aims to be inclusive and accessible and free of discrimination; how this looks is ever-evolving as I learn more and become aware of my biases and privileges. My experience as a music teacher and college professor means I see the world through the lens of an educator, and I work well with school colleagues as a result. I am comfortable helping families navigate IEPs and 504 plans. In addition to Sentier, I oversee a nonprofit organization called Dissonance that is all about building healthy community in and through the arts. I am a singer - classically trained but with Broadway dreams - and haven't ever met a dance class I would turn down. You can find me outside or with my family during downtime.
