About My Clients
My goal as a therapist is to work with you to gain insight and understanding into how you got where you are and to work on building the skills for the life you want. I specialize in working with individuals going through fertility treatments, have suffered pregnancy loss, as well as general perinatal mental health.
My Background and Approach
Individuals who are looking for an open, accepting, and laid-back therapist are most successful with me. I have been described as the first "real" therapist they had met and as easy to open up and talk to. My therapeutic approach is not one that relies heavily on techniques. Rather, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the catalyst for driving change in your life. I am going to sit with you when it feels so incredibly crappy and I am going to laugh with you when the happiness starts to show more. I work primarily with individuals age 18 and over.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a firm believer that I am on a life-long journey of educating myself. This education includes me taking the time to explore my own intersecting identities. I believe that a person is more than one part of them or one experience and that the low-hanging fruit is rarely at the core of what is troubling you. As a therapist I am not going to impose my own belief systems in the room nor am I going to try and persuade you to believe as I do. With that in mind, I know it is important to build a therapeutic relationship for change to occur and that comes more naturally when you feel like your therapist gets you and isn't going to judge. I value open-minded approaches and tolerance to differing opinions. I think telling folks to exercise to feel better can feel like a jab when you have struggled with your weight and self-esteem for years. I believe that there can be hope after something horrific. I believe humor and sarcasm can be therapeutic.
