About My Clients
Is your family or culture unsupportive of therapy? Do you expect yourself to handle everything on your own? Do you fear what therapy can uncover? Do you struggle to find a place where you feel you belong? Do you experience shame from intimate partner violence? Do you experience anxiety and depression related to these stressors? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions and are ready to do the work, then you are at the right place.
My Background and Approach
I believe that seeking therapy is not a sign of weakness, but a courageous step toward growth. I infuse person-centered therapy with cognitive behavioral techniques to help clients navigate issues of diversity, identity, intimate partner violence, and racial trauma. These are some heavy topics, so before jumping into the deep end, I prioritize establishing safety and getting to know you as a unique individual. As a queer woman and BIPOC clinician, I recognize the profound impact that our identities have on our experiences and patterns in life. Thus, I approach therapy through an intersectional lens, paying close attention to the various components of your identity—including ethnicity, age, gender, ability, sexual orientation, acculturation status, spiritual affiliation, or socioeconomic status. Together, you and I will create a plan for wellness. I will be your biggest cheerleader and unconditionally supportive, but I will also gently challenge you to encourage growth and healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I get it. Therapy is intimidating and vulnerable. You may wonder, "How would she know? She's a therapist." Well, I was a client long before I became a therapist. I used to think therapy was only for people who had "serious problems," but I learned that it can also be used as a tool for self-discovery and healing. I went through therapy as a child, as a teenager, and as an adult. I was a client who, at first, did not feel safe to open up and acknowledge my feelings. I worked through issues like depression, anxiety, and trauma. The work wasn't easy, but it was worth it. Know that if you feel overwhelmed, you don’t have to face life's obstacles alone. I'm here as a therapist who "gets it." Change won't come overnight, nor is it linear. I'll provide a welcoming, safe, and compassionate space for you to land as we go through this process together. Reach out, and together we can create a path to a more fulfilling life!
