About My Clients
I work with adult and adolescent clients focusing on a variety of presenting concerns including bicultural identity, divorce, domestic violence, childhood trauma, life transitions, and perinatal/pregnancy/postpartum matters. I am passionate about exploring gender roles and expectations. I love to serve, share common experiences, and celebrate culture and identity with fellow members of the AAPI community and speak Mandarin.
My Background and Approach
As a Taiwanese immigrant who started the journey as an international student, I experienced and witnessed silencing of marginalized individuals, leading to shutting down within oneself. I believe that multiple truths exist within one room and even within one person. These experiences have informed my work with immigrants and their families regarding visa stress and fear, generational challenges, identity integration, and developing a sense of belonging. I seek to empower clients by recognizing that social location affects mental health. Based on each client’s needs and journey, I incorporate elements of existential, IFS, CBT, and DBT approaches. In my work with clients, we focus on meaning and purpose to explore the various aspects of yourself, thereby increasing self-compassion and acceptance.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all of our voices, emotions and perceptions are valid, especially for those who have been historically silenced. I care deeply about cultivating the sense of belonging for those who don't internalize the othering-ness in themselves; I strive to nurture the self compassion for all parts of ourselves especially for those who have learned to be critical to themselves. I have been participating in AAPI related volunteers and community as the beginning of my advocacy work. Reading and having real discussions on racial injustice, intergenerational trauma and gender issues help me check in with the rest of the world.
