About My Clients

It’s difficult to be a kid; your body is growing rapidly, your friends aren’t as nice as they used to be, and you need to study for hours while your siblings are breezing through their homework. You feel out of place and alone. There's so much pressure to do well - it's a lot to handle. As a parent, you feel that weight. It’s scary when your child’s not doing well. You want to know how to fix it, but nothing seems to be helping. You want someone who is going to care for them as much as you do.

My Background and Approach

When working with young children, the therapeutic focus is on developing and collaborating with the parents to best suit the child’s unique needs. All of my work with children will incorporate play, as “play is a child's natural medium for self-expression” (Virginia Axline). Play is also how children best learn and process information, as children that cannot even speak still know how to interact with those around them. How do they do this? Through play. Garry Landreth put it best: “Toys are children's words, and play is their language.” The play we will do in therapy is purposeful and focuses on the child. We often differentiate work from play, but that is because we misunderstand what play is. If you have ever watched a child intensely focus on what they are playing, you will see play is serious business. With this in mind, we are all carrying around our younger selves, so I would love to work with older children, meaning anyone 12 and over.
